Looking for a quiet weekend getaway near Manila and wanna level up your surfing skill? Try Liwliwa, San Felipe in Zambales!
Will I gonna have a long ride on the wave again? Let’s see!
Liwliwa, San Felipe, Zambales
HOW TO GET THERE
By car. Drive from Manila via NLEX or SCTEX.
Travel time: 3-4 hours
By bus and then tricycle.
1. Take Victory Liner from Pasay/Cubao Terminal to Iba Zambales
Tell the bus driver or the bus attendant to drop you off in the town of San Felipe. Wag kang gumaya sakin bes sabi ko kasi, “Sa Iba kami ibaba.” Kaya ayun napamahal ng 32 pesos ang pamasahe. Sayang din yun.
Fare: 325 php
Travel time: 4-5 hours
Suggested departure time: 11:30pm or 5am
Expected time of arrival: If you took the 11:30pm ride you will arrive at 4am which is too early.
Tip: Spend atleast an hour on the nearest 7 eleven to buy something to eat because accommodations in Liwliwa is not 24 hours open.
2. From there, take a tricycle and tell them you want to go to Liwliwa beach
Fare: 30 php/person, but expect additional of 10php/person if you travel in the middle of the night or early in the morning.
Travel time: 10 minutes
Tip: If you arrived as early as 4 am just wait in front of Fely’s Store and Canteen until 5am. You may also go straight to the beach and have a sit on some nipa hut however we find it so scary because the area was so dark and many dogs were barking on us.
HOW TO GET AROUND
If you aren’t bringing a car, you can get around Zambales via tricycle for 100 php/person above depending on the destination and hours you will consume per trip. For us, we pay 250 (good for 2) for a one and a half hour tour we consumed from The Circle Hostel going to Lubong Nanguloan Falls and going back to the hostel. Tricycle drivers will also offer you a tour guide service with additional charge of 100php but we chose to find the falls by ourselves.
